Scott County, located along the
Arkansas and Oklahoma border in the west central part of the State,
encompasses 898 square miles. Roughly 81 percent of the county
area is forested and part of the Ouachita Mountain range. The county
is considered rural with about 60 percent of its population in 2000
residing in rural areas. Population density approximates 12 persons
per square mile.
Waldron, the county seat, and the
Mansfield,
which is actually split between two counties, are the only incorporated
communities in Scott County.
